Why are you doing the LGBT Studies Undergraduate Minor?

LGBT studies has given me the opportunity to dip my toe into several different fields due to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject. It has helped me to develop the analytical skills I need to succeed in the future, while challenging me to ask the right questions and come up with creative answers. LGBT Studies helps to develop a degree of empathy, I have learned how to look at problems and situations from several different answers, which has pushed me as a student and a person.

What is your best experience with LGBT studies?

This semester I am working on an Independent Study with Professor Naminata Diabate! I have the opportunity to spend the semester researching queer street art and the role of community art in shaping public spaces and influencing social movements. At the end of the semester, I will be curating a digital selection of queer street art to provide a perspective on queer art beyond the gallery!

Who is your favorite queer icon?

Ellen DeGeneres has given so much visibility to the LGBTQ community. Plus, she just makes me smile.
