Name: Alexander Schaef Year: Senior Major and minor: Viticulture & Enology major, LGBT Studies minor Hometown: Woodstock, NY Fun fact about yourself: When I was little I would help my mom fold laundry, and I thought that the used dryer sheets were dirty tampons, and I was afraid to be near them. 1. How did you decide to minor in LGBT and how does it complement your field of study? I wanted to focus on my own identity, as well as dissect the human condition in regards to pleasure, the desire-destruction dichotomy, and sex. 2. What has been your favorite LGBT class? LGBT 4945: Body Politics in African Literature and Cinema 3. What are your future career and/or educational goals? I just want to provoke... and hopefully "heal" eventually, whatever that means. 4. What is the best decision you've made at Cornell? Taking the time to meet new people instead of doing homework. The 'townies' I made connections with really changed my perspective of Ithaca and college in general. I became close with a man who lived on a boat on Cayuga lake and spent many nights with him out on the water. Wow. 5. As a senior, what is your most hilarious/embarrassing memory at Cornell? I was having a severe paranoid episode in an upper-level science laboratory and grabbed a ton of glassware and shattered it on the floor. I had to go back to get my backpack while the class was still happening. I couldn't look that professor in the eyes for years.
